Each arc represents a level of educational attainment, starting at none on the left to grade school to high school and up to professional and graduate degrees. Arc length, represents the proportion of adults age 25 and older with the respective level of attainment. Arc color represents general categories of attainment. As a whole, each chart represents the distribution of attainment in each state.

Sudden increases represent common educational milestones, namely a high school diploma or equivalent, some college, and a bachelor’s degree.
