Health Disparities and Priority Populations

"Despite continued advances in healthcare and technology, there are persistent gaps in health and healthcare across racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups around the world. Why is it that one ethnic group continues to suffer from a specific type of cancer while another ethnic group has experienced declining rates of incidence? Understanding these gaps, or health disparities, is crucial to the improvement of healthcare quality as a whole."

Goal: The challenge of this data was not so much the numbers themselves, but the format that it was in. There are several tables offered by AHRQ, spread across several demographics and metrics. Categories (e.g. family income) are described differently across tables and there is missing data. This browser adapts to the heterogeneity and makes it easy to quickly make comparisons across the demographics in these tables.

The focus is on people. The data offers many more categories, but I chose to make it easy for readers to look at their own groups and see how they relate.

Looking for more: I would have liked to do more with the standard errors, however, because we do not know the sample distributions, I chose to keep it simple. You can view standard error by mousing over bars.
